A taxi driver has given a horrifying account of how he fought off a suspected robber who sought his services in the night from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Ritz Junction at Madina in Accra.
The driver who shared his story on Adom FM‘s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, said on getting to the Ritz Junction, which was the original destination, the passenger asked that he takes him further for an additional fee.
According to him, even though he obliged to take him further for the additional fee, his intuitions told him he could be in for trouble hence on getting to the new destination, he decided to turn his back to the passenger’s gate before he got down.
Lo and behold, the driver said he saw eight other people approach his car so he locked his vehicle centrally but before he finished doing so, the passenger had demanded that he hands over his sales for the day.
As the passenger was attempting to rob him, the others were attempting to open the door to the driver’s side but failed because of the action he took to lock the vehicle centrally.
“I then held the passenger by his jeans trousers, pulled him back into the car and moved and that was when he decided to give me blows in the car. He beat me until we entered the main Madina-Accra road when I also took a knife I had in the car to pierce him in the leg,” he narrated.
According to the driver, he managed to drive the alleged robber to Madina Police Station with his eyes half-closed from the beating he suffered from the robber’s hand but the case has still not seen any progress.

Y’asem Nie is a new segment on Dwaso Nsem on Adom 106.3 FM, a segment that takes place every Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:00 am. The segment gives the opportunity to ordinary groups, especially tradesmen and women to tell their stories with the hope of getting government action on some of their challenges.
The show is also used to clear common (mis)conceptions about such trade groups.
