A recent letter by the Auditor General’s department signed by the acting AG, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, addressed to the office of the senior minister, stated that, the department is pleased with the process which bothers on the inspection of documents in the Kroll and associates deal.
“We wish to state that, we are satisfied with the process and therefore propose that the lawyers inform the Supreme Court accordingly to enable the parties go back to the high court to continue with the proceedings in that court” the letter stated.
It could be recalled that, the Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo surcharged senior minister, Osafo-Maafo for alleged procurement breaches and payment of an amount of GH¢4,869,421.87 to a private United Kingdom firm Kroll and Associates for “no work done”.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo later initiated legal processes to challenge the Auditor General’s decision to surcharge him; The senior minister then explained his decision to sue to the media that, “the Auditor General erred in law and professional procedures in exercise of his powers regarding his audit on payments to Kroll and Associates Limited,”
The issue has since been in the Supreme Court. However, the acting auditor general who took office just a day after the “original” auditor general was asked to take his leave has issued a letter which could put an end to this matter before Mr. Domelevo returns to office after 167 days.
