Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chiefs Executive (MMDCEs) within the Greater Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region have been directed to ensure the enforcement of the party’s directive banning paraphernalia and outdoor promotional materials for individuals seeking to contest for various positions ahead of the party’s 2021 Annual Delegates Conference slated for Kumasi this weekend.
Mynewsgh.com has already reported how giant billboards heralding the intentions of persons like the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and other appointees of President Akufo-Addo, including Agric Minister, Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Trades Minister Alan Kyeremateng for the party’s 2024 flagbearership have become showpieces along the streets and major traffic intersections in Kumasi ahead of the conference.
Others for the likes of Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, Justin Koduah, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi and a host of others who have eyes on various national and regional executive positions also add to the number of billboards decorating the skyline with the party’s colours.
But speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by Mynewsgh.com on Monday morning, General Secretary John Boadu charged MMDCEs within the catchment area to ensure that all such billboards are immediately pulled down if the individuals themselves fail to do so.
“If they respect the party’s rules and regulations, they would remove their billboards for the time being; we would be left with no option than to remove them ourselves before the date for the conference; MMDCEs within the area have been instructed to pull all of them down”, John Boadu said.
A communiqué issued by the party over the weekend after a “National Steering Committee” meeting said sanctions for persons who flout the directive may include “disqualification” in the event that nominations are declared open in future.
Before the instruction to the MMDCEs By John Boadu, the Ashanti Regional First Vice Chairman of the party, Kwabena Nsenkyire had vowed to take matters into his owns hands to uproot all the billboards by tomorrow.
He argues that all individuals with billboards courting the delegates who would be present at the conference, including the vice president and other serving government appointees are sabotaging the sitting president, Nana Akufo-Addo who still has 3 years to serve in his second tenure.
