Two Okada riders die in a head-on collision at Ewutu Obrakyere

Sad news coming in from Ewutu Obrakyere in the Central region of Ghana has it that, two commercial motorbike riders have lost their lives in a fatal accident.

The two “Okada” had passengers with one carrying one passenger whilst the other had overloaded with two additional passengers.

The two riders passed on instantly after the head-on collision leaving the passengers in critical conditions.

Eyewitnesses said the riders did not have crash helmets and were speeding in addition which can directly be attributed to the cause of the accident.

The other passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries have been taken to the Winneba government hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Blatant disregard for road safety regulations by “Okada” riders and other road users has been associated with the majority of the fatal and gory accidents on our roads.

We have a lot of work to do as a nation if we want to legalize the “Okada” and accept it as a means of transportation in our country.

Some stakeholders have suggested the government should rather improve the public transport system like the Metro Mass and the “Ayalolo” to ease traffic on our roads whilst finding alternative sustainable jobs for the youth to discourage them from engaging in the “Okada” as a business
