They left their bags and laptops: Mac Manu’s ‘old’ interview confirms Rojo and Kpessa-Whyte’s statement

In the ongoing election petition hearing at the Supreme Court, a video of the New Patriotic Party’s Campaign Chairman for the 2020 general election, Peter MacManu, which has resurfaced, seems to indicate some iota of reality in statements made by witnesses to the petitioner.

One of the controversial parts of the petitioner’s witness statement states that John Dramani Mahama’s electoral agents were sent out of the strong room of the Electoral Commission, moments before the 2020 presidential election results were announced.

Rojo Mettle Nunoo’s assertion, corroborated by Dr. Kpessa-Whyte, suggests that the two members of the National Democratic Congress were asked to send a message to Mr. John Dramani Mahama by the EC Commissioner, Jean Mensa.

However, the witnesses claimed that the intention of the Commissioner was to send them out and take advantage of the opportunity to announce the results in favor of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

As part of their defense, they claim that, as indicated by the lawyer for the respondents, they never wanted to leave their place, but left in good faith, having been questioned by the EC head herself and that it accounted for them leaving their laptops and bags in the strong room.

During cross-examination, however, Justin Amenuvor, lawyer for the Electoral Commission, told Dr Kpessa-Whyte that he and his colleague had only left the Strong Room because they knew that their candidate had lost.
