Supreme Court Grants Mahama’s Motion To Correct Errors In Election Petition

The Supreme Court has granted a motion by John Dramani Mahama to correct errors in his Election Petition.

Lawyers for both President Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) opposed the motion for the amendment but the court ruled that the amendment will not in any way affect the Election Petition and accordingly granted it.

The Supreme Court ordered the Petitioner to file the amendment by close of day today and the Respondents are to do so Friday, December 15, 2020 and adjourned the case to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, for the pre-trial.

The court also granted a request to have a live broadcast of court proceedings.

Lawyers of Mr. Mahama argued that the live broadcast of the proceedings will be in the interest of the state. The court also heard an application by the petitioner to correct some mistakes in his suit.
