The Tamale North Constituency Member of Parliament, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has said that Ghanaian democracy is under threat.
According to him, the security presence at Parliament House is unparalleled ahead of the President’s delivery of the last State of the Nation Address on Tuesday.
To him, in his career as a reporter and also a Member of Parliament, he has never seen such deployment to Parliament in his life.
On his social media page, the lawmaker who made these comments known said: “I have been to Parliament as a reporter for many State of the Nation Addresses (SONA) and swearing-in ceremonies and I have sat in the chamber as an MP to participate in one swearing-in and witnessed the introduction of some more SONA.”
I have never seen the number of armed soldiers and armoured vehicles deployed in parliament as I saw today in preparation for SONA tomorrow! If you still believe that your silence/acquiescence benefits our democracy, which is starting to look more like it is right, I wish us all well.
