Running mate slot: Prof. Azar flattered by Mahama’s “kind and generous words”

Professor of Accounting and lawyer, Stephen Kwaku Asare has expressed his appreciation over what he describes as “kind and generous words” expressed by former President John Dramani Mahama about him.

Professor Asare, during former President Mahama’s periodic live social media interactions on Thursday, was named by a viewer as a potential candidate strong enough to pair with the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama for the 2020 general elections.

But the former President and flagbearer declined the suggestion insisting the learned Professor may not be interested in leaving academia for politics.

John Mahama however had some kind words to share about the rather controversial Professor.

Reacting to the former president’s comments about him, Professor Azar said, “I sincerely thank the former President for his kind and generous words about me when addressing a question of whether he’d consider me as running mate. I also agree with his assessment that not everyone is interested in public office and that one can still be an effective voice in public discourse even as a private citizen”.

He continued, “the new Ghana must allow all its citizens to participate equally in the political space; must not stand in the way of the citizens’ quest to acquire knowledge; must eschew public corruption; must cut out wasteful expenditures and must provide equal opportunity, economic and social justice for all its citizens.”
