Resign or be sacked – Inusah Fuseini to Frimpong Boateng

Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has asked the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Frimpong Boateng to resign from his position or be sacked.

The former Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration says Frimpong Boateng must resign because the damage caused to his integrity following the release of a viral video of him in discussion with one Ekow Ewusi over a galamsey concession is irreparable.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng, who also Chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee against Illegal Mining (IMCIM) was allegedly heard in a viral video discussing concessions of mining sites with the a suspended regional executive of the governing New Patriotic Party.

The development comes days after the Inter-Ministerial Committee Chairman made a disclosure that about 500 seized excavators by Operation Vanguard, the task force set up to put an end to the illegal mining menace in the country have gone missing.

Prof Frimpong Boateng later wrote to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest and investigate Horace Ekow Ewusi after learning that he reportedly sold some of the confiscated items from the illegal miners.

Speaking on the development, Inusah Fuseini indicated that the mere fact that Mr Ekow Ewusi who has been arrested and granted bail for his role played in the missing excavators’ scandal, was also in the Minister’s viral tape shows that there’s been a compromise in the fight against galamsey on the part of Prof Frimpong Boateng and therefore he must resign or be sacked by the President.

“I thought the minister would have resigned from office, the tape recording making the rounds has so dented his image and destroyed the little integrity that he has that it will be in his interest to protect the little integrity that he has left by simply resigning. If he fails to do that he must be fired by the President

“The person who speaks on the audio [Ekow Ewusie] has to my information been arrested and so clearly it means that there is some semblance of truth in the tape recording. Again, when the President was inaugurating the Inter-Ministerial task force on illegal small scale mining, he put his Presidency on the line, that shows the level to which seriousness must be attached to any activity whether it compromises or enhances the fight against illegal small scale mining. In this particular case, the alleged activities of the Minister and some members of the inter-ministerial task force and some members of the ruling government and the NPP party compromised the fight against illegal small scale mining,” he stated.

In a related development, Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has indicated that the viral tape recording which has indicted Professor Frimpong Boateng should be a subject of investigation.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID), through its Public Relations Officer, Juliana Obeng, told Accra-based Starr FM on Wednesday, February 5, that the Police will look into the matter.
