Politicians are paid ‘peanut salaries’, Ghanaians being unfair to us – Public Sector Reform boss Kusi Boafo

The man tasked with a reform of the public sector or Chief Executive Officer for the Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo has said politicians in Ghana are woefully underpaid and there is a need for that to be addressed going forward.

According to him, by choosing politics as a career, some politicians have become fathers of several families and individuals who they are expected to attend to their needs although their salaries are meagre.

He argued that as a politician their salaries dont last up to thirty days because serial callers alone can finish your “meagre” salary in two days.

“As politicians, our salaries are meager. How much is the salary of a politician? I can tell you that only serial callers can use two days to spend all my salary. So how do I even take care of my children and wife? Even if I give each serial caller GHC100, that means in two days, my salary as a politician is finished,” he told Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio.

He indicates that some politicians owe so much so that even their ex-gratia cannot pay for their debt owed banks and private individuals.

“Appointee owe, all MPs are indebted in this country. For some of the politicians, the debt on them is unimaginable and it’s so much that they can die as a result of their indebtedness.”
