A fire outbreak which started around 5:30 pm on Friday, February 14, has destroyed over 200 cluster of wooden structure at Dagombaline in Kumasi, rendering an estimated number of Five Hundred (500) residents homeless.
This comes days after the Ghana Meteorological Agency warned of possible increase in fire outbreaks across the country due to heightened outburst of the 2019/2020 harmattan season.
Though officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have not disclosed what caused the fire, eye witness reports indicates that the disaster was caused by the fall of high tension pole in the slum area which houses head potters (Kayaye), scrap dealers and traders in the Ashanti Regional capital.
A similar incident occurred 4 years ago on Saturday, January 9, 2016, which caused more than 2,000 head porters and metal scrap dealers to be homeless.
Properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis, including clothes, bed materials and personal belongings have been destroyed by the inferno.
