Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh has said that the current challenges with electricity supply in the country is as a result of maintenance works being undertaken by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
According to him, power cannot be in the system while engineers work to fix the overaged infrastructure and equipment, hence the need for power to be cut off to enable the repair works to be done in a safe environment.
He however, was quick to debunk claims that the current power situation in the country is an indication that ‘dumsor’ is back. He said that the power challenges that characterized the erstwhile John Mahama administration was ‘dumsor’, and that the current power situation is ‘dumfix’, which suggests that power is cut off in order to pave way for repair works.
Most parts of the capital, Accra have experienced a week long 12-hour a day power interruption. Prior to that, a time table was made public so that those in the affected areas would plan their daily activities. Power will however, be fully restored to the affected area today, May 17.
