Today is International Workers’ Day, also known as Workers’ Day or Labour Day in some countries and often referred to as May Day. It is a day set aside to celebrate workers worldwide for their contribution to the growth of their economies.
The day is often observed as a holiday and with parades.
However, in Ghana, the usual May Day parades will not be held in compliance with restrictions on public gathering due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In view of this, Organized Labour and GBC will hold a virtual broadcast on GBC’s platforms nationwide to enable the leadership of Worker Unions reach out to all workers with a strong message of solidarity and encouragement in these difficult times of COVID 19.
The Special Guest of Honour will be President Akufo-Addo who will speak on the theme “COVID 19 in Ghana, impact on employment and working conditions”.
The programme will be aired on GTV and GBC’s FM Stations between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Deputy Secretary-General of the TUC, Joshua Ansah in an interview with Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng on ‘Behind the News’ outlined what workers should expect.
