NPP primaries: Osei-Mensah-Bonsu’s contender steps down

Richard Kwasi Boadi Soadwa, who wanted to contest incumbent Suame MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries has rescinded his decision to enter the race.

According to Mr. Soadwa, although he has been pressured by friends, family members and loved ones to pick his nomination forms, he decided to step down from the contest after a meeting with some party officials and elders of the party.

Speaking in a Press Conference, to announce his decision, Mr. Soadwa noted that the officials have indicated to him that the incumbent, Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is doing very crucial work for the party and Ghana and therefore the party cannot afford to miss his presence in parliament.

In view of this, Richard Kwasi Boadi Soadwa upon extensive deliberations and consultations has decided to back down on his earlier decision to contest in the primaries in order to pave way for the majority leader to continue to render his service to Ghana in parliament.

He added that he is going to offer his full support to the current MP in the upcoming primaries and general elections so that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu can continue with his service to the NPP and Ghana for the next four years.

“I have therefore sided with them and therefore won’t pick my forms again so that I can throw my support behind Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu ahead of the 2020 general elections,” Mr. Richard Kwasi Boadi Soadwa said in the press conference.

He continued that “my friends, relatives and loved ones pressured me to pick my form when nominations were opened. However, some executives and leaders of the party have called me and advised me on my bid to contest. They have advised me against picking the forms. According to them, the work Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu is doing for Ghana is very great and crucial and for that matter, I should not pick my forms. They want him to continue to help the country in the next four years.”
