The Electoral Commission (EC) has put journalists and all other media personnel on notice that they cannot cover the ongoing voter registration exercise without seeking approval from the Commission.
A statement dated July 2, 2020, signed and issued by the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the electoral management body, Mrs Sylvia Annoh instructs journalists and media personnel to secure accreditation from the Commission before visiting the various registration centres.
The directive comes two days after the commencement of the 38-day exercise which is scheduled to end in the first week of August this year.
Within the period, journalists have reported extensively happenings at the various registration centres countrywide with some of the fallouts being the non-adherence to the various COVID-19 safety protocols and altercations among parties.
“Media Personnel and journalists who wish to visit and observe the registration exercise at various designated centres should pick up accreditation forms from the Public Affairs Department and Regional Directorates of the Commission,” the notice said.
“The registration exercise which began on Monday, 30th June, 2020 will end on Thursday 6th August, 2020. We look forward to your cooperation,” it added.
