Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has directed opposition parties resisting the compilation of the new voters register to put a stop to “militancy” and seek redress at the Court.
According to him, the use of force and demonstrations by the Inter-Party Resistance Against the New Voters Register to demand the Electoral Commission to do things their way serves the county no good as it “runs counter” to the constitution.
In his view, the EC’s decision falls within their constitutionally stipulated duties, hence any party that feels aggrieved by their actions or deems the EC’s quest to compile a new register as inappropriate must resort to the Court for an amicable settlement and proper interpretation of the laws.
The former President made the remarks after a group backing the compilation of the new register called on him.
“Anything done outside the constitutional procedure I believe would run counter to the wishes of the people generally.
