The general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has finally explained how he came by the name ‘General Mosquito’.
According to him during his time as a Parliamentarian, he stood his grounds to make sure some appointed MPs under Kuffour’s administration face correct vetting procedure despite being alone.
He noted that there was one MP whom he found out that he had embezzled at his former work place and so he raised concerns about it hence subsequently winning the case despite all NDC MPs also teaming up with the NPP MPs to accept that particular MPs appointment.
Asiedu Nketia stressed that since then the NPP MPs in Parliament gave him the name ‘General Mosquito’ because they claim he rebelled just like ‘General Mosquito’ of Sierra Leone.
Samuel Sam Bockarie who was widely known as Mosquito’ was a Sierra Leonean politician and army commander who served as a leader of the Revolutionary United Front. He was infamous during the Sierra Leon Civil war for his brutal tactics which included amputation and rape. He attracted the name ”Mosquito” for his ability to attack his enemies at night when they were off guard.
Despite his explanation, he says many other people have their own explanation on how the name came to exist, ranging from his body size and how he speaks.
