A campaign spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s speech at her party outdooring focused on matters that concern her and the party.
Since the NDC’s event last night, there has been debate surrounding her speech which has been advertised to highlight her policies for the country.
However, political analysts have said that she did not reveal any policy she would introduce should the NDC ticket win the general elections in December 2020.
James Agyenim-Boateng explained on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Tuesday that, the statement he authored did include policies she stands for because she told Ghanaians what concerns her.
He said according to the definition of the word ‘policy’ in the Cambridge dictionary, the former Education Minister made a point, for example, about women and accessibility to high positions, which she has achieved, which is, in fact, an indicator of the kind of policies she agrees with.
“I don’t know whether that is not a policy. When she talks about the fact that our young women must rise above their obstacles and ought not to have any hindrances in their way and understand that whatever a man is doing today, a woman is capable of doing,” he said.
Mr. Agyenim-Boateng also said it could be a matter of style and that’s why people may have been confused. However, to him, it was not confusing but rather clear cut.
“[Policies] are ideas or a plan of what to do in particular situations and she has told you what ought to be done in the situation of a 90-year-old woman who, some barbaric people with a primitive mindset have lynched and how she thinks police should convince us that the woman did not die in vain.”
He said such an example proves that she opposes the actions and looks forward to making sure that does not happen again through policy-making.
According to him, again, the attention post-event shows how much people were “glued looking out for these things.”
He insisted that he does not see it as criticism but rather exciting.
