Ghana’s fight against COVID-19 and its spread has been given a political twist especially because there are upcoming general elections in December.
According to reports coming in from the Ashanti Region and been reported by several websites, face masks of the two biggest political parties in Ghana, NDC, and NPP, has become the toast of the town.
Pictures making rounds show individuals who have put on face masks that represent their political affiliations and as well protect them against the virus.
The politicization of a face mask or the amalgamation of a protective face mask with political colors is not right but it appears it is gaining momentum and will suddenly take over the country.
Wearing of face make and other restrictions have become mandatory after the president lifted the lockdown two Sundays ago.
Ghana’s coronavirus case count is at 1,55o and the government is working assiduously to nip the further spread of this pandemic in the bud.
However, politics will always come into play as we see people who have donned face masks to campaign and to differentiate them from ordinary Ghanaians as the clock ticks steadily for the December polls.
These two parties have been playing political football with the COVID-19 issue. While the NDC claims of their ability to prevent the outbreak of Ebola in Ghana and the building of hospitals which the current government is using in the fight, the NPP also boasts of being better managers of the COVID-19 debacle.
