Mahama will not select any young ‘2024’ running mate – NDC MP

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Ras Mubarak has given a hint of the running mate of John Mahama for the upcoming election, revealing that the former President who is seeking re-election will not select a young man.

According to Ras Mubarak, the former President doesn’t want someone who will seek to market himself for the 2024 election when the party is in power and has work to do.

The NDC MP strongly backed Kwabena Duffour and Kwesi Botchwey to partner John Mahama.

“He does not need a distraction. Not someone who will be marketing himself for the 2024 elections when we have a job to do. A young running mate will be promoting himself and competition for the next election. Both Prof Kwesi Botchwey and Dr. Duffuor will be exciting running mate choice. You need stability, somebody who will be focused and not trying to be popular when there is still work to be done,” he stated.

“The announcement will be made in the coming days now that the restrictions on public gathering have been relaxed. The candidate is ready and the party is also ready so in the coming days the announcement will be made.” Mubarak added.

Mr. John Dramani Mahama himself last month said his mind is already made up on who to name as his partner going into the December general elections.

“I have a firm idea [of] who my running mate will be and we will name him at the right time,” the former President said in his televised social media interaction dubbed ‘Digital Conversation’.

The opposition leader has been criticised for failing to name a running mate two years after he was elected to lead the largest opposition party and with some to six months to go into the general election.
