Mahama accuses Akufo-Addo of terrorising citizens from registering

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of using ferocious means to disenfranchise people, particularly in the Volta Region party’s strongholds.

John Mahama in a Facebook post-Saturday said the Akufo-Addo administration is using the military and party thugs to prevent citizens who are Voltarians and non-Akans from applying to get a voters identification card.

He further described the act as unacceptable and dangerous since it could cause agitation amongst citizens.

“Executive power must not be used to foment ethnic discrimination and abuse as is happening under Nana Akufo-Addo.

“These calculated acts of “dehumanization, disenfranchising Ghanaians and stripping them of their citizenship” must end,” he said.

Mr. Mahama then pledged not to use military force to disrupt the peace the country of the country.

“As Commander-in-Chief, I will not use our military in such a partisan manner to terrorize our own people, and in matters that are purely civil and dwell in the very heart of our constitutional democracy.”
