LISTEN: Why family of man killed by police wants body buried at police headquarters

The family of a man, allegedly brutalised and killed by two police personnel at Adomfe in the Ashanti region, wants their late son buried at the forecourt of the Konongo Divisional Command Headquarters.

Explaining its decision in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, lawyer for the deceased, Asamoah Moako said the move will remind the police of their core mandate which is to protect and not brutalise people such as the 33-year-old driver, Kofi Ampoma.

“Adomfe is a very peaceful town and this heinous crime has never happened here before, and so burying him at the police headquarters will remind them of their sacred duty to protect lives and not to take lives,” he said.

The deceased driver, popularly known as ‘Barluso’, passed on at Adomfe, on Tuesday after allegedly being brutalised by the police.

Three police officers have so far been interdicted in relation to the incident.

Lawyer Moako revealed that the family is not happy about the way the police are handling the case, saying that the family not only wants the police officers interdicted, but also remanded in police custody and subsequently punished for their acts.

He also added that the family on Monday will be meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister to discuss about the final resting place of ‘Barluso’.

The late Ampoma is to be buried on January 21, 2020.
