JUST IN: 2020: First-time NPP MP for Techiman South quits

A first-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South in the Bono East Region, Henry Yiadom Boakye has quit and will therefore not be seeking reelection in the 2020 polls.

The lawmaker who made the revelation on Techiman-based Classic Fm monitored by, however promised to rally behind any candidate the party chooses to replace him in the 2020 polls.

“Whatever the party will decide is what will follow. No one has approached me that he will contest in the 2020 polls as parliamentary candidate but I have heard from the grapevine that some people are lacing their boots to contest. Me as a Member of Parliament (MP) I have sacrificed for anyone that the party may choose to contest but I will not pick nominations”, he revealed on the show.

Though he will not disclosed that may have informed his decision he hinted of an official announcement in the coming days for all his supporters and thereafter disclose his next line of action.

“I have prayed over my decision, done self-introspection so I will urge my supporters not to get disappointed. I have not quit parliament and still have my tenure as an MP to complete January 6, 2021. I also have the opportunity to contest any executive position of the party”, he urged.

According to him, there are reports that Deputy Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah may be contesting the seat though he is yet to officially declare his intentions.

To this end, he is urging the rank and file of the party to support him if it turns out to be true appealing to them to eschew bickering that has the potential of affecting the fortunes of the NPP in the area.

“We must stop the bickering, Pull Him Down syndrome and divisions so that the NPP in Techiman South will be a force to reckon with to win the 2020 seat. That is my dream. Anyone who succeeds me must not bring the name of the seat into disrepute”, he added.
