Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo has asked the public to ignore the rumor that he is resuming work today January 11, 2021.
Social media commentaries suggested that the embattled Auditor General directed to proceed on leave by President Akufo-Addo last year will resume work on Monday.
However, in a Facebook post, the Auditor General stated that” Please ignore the news circulating that I will be resuming work tomorrow, 11 January 2021. The 167 working days leave ends on 2nd March and I will resume work on the 3rd. Thanks,” he wrote.
President Akufo-Addo on June 29, 2020, asked the Auditor-General to take his accumulated leave, a statement from the presidency has said.
Director of Communications at the Jubilee House in the statement said Mr. Domelevo is expected to begin the leave on Wednesday, July 1, 2020
Some Civil Society groups in the country numbering nine subsequently filed a suit challenging the directive by President Akufo-Addo asking Auditor General Daniel Domelevo to proceed on leave.
An appeal by the civil society groups to have the decision reversed was rejected by the Presidency.
In a statement, the CSOs said: “We had hoped that the President would reconsider his decision in light of the deleterious effect of his action on public accountability and the fight against waste and corruption in the management of public finances. Unfortunately, that has not happened. Instead, certain developments since the Auditor-General was forced to leave his office have only gone to worsen the situation, leaving us with no option but to seek the intervention of the courts”.
