Alban Sumana Bagbin has been elected as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.
For the first time in the history of Ghana Parliament, the candidate nominated by the ruling party couldn’t win the race to become the Speaker of Parliament.
Instead the candidate of the opposition won the election conducted and voted by members of parliament.
After the election the results show 2 MPs of the ruling NPP didn’t vote for their party’s candidate.
One of the two voted for the NDC candidate Alban Bagbin and the other one decided to spoil his ballot paper.
Many have fingered some MPs as being the ‘Judases’ who sabotaged the NPP’s candidate based on their bad relationship with Mike Ocquaye or their good relationship with Alban Bagbin.
A video has surfaced on the internet which has NPP MP of Sunyani East Ameyaw Cheremeh threatening not to vote for Mike Ocquaye should the President nominates him.
He the President knows he will it vote for Mike Ocquaye if he nominated him so he shouldn’t make the mistake of nominating him.
He cited the 2017 voting when 10 members of the NPP voted against this same man but managed to scale through because they had an overwhelming majority then.
