A former Accountant of the Buipe Polyclinic in the Savannah Region Mr. Osman Jamal-Deen will spend more days in prison while his fate is being determined by the court.
When the matter was called on Monday June 21, 2021 at a Tamale High Court presided over by His Lordship Richard Kogyapwa, it was adjourned to 6th July ,2021 for Case Management Conference.
Both the Counsel for the defendant and the State Attorney are expected to file the disclosures before the next adjourned date for Case Management and then the hearing of the substantive matter will commence.
As a result, he was remanded into prison custody to reappear on the next adjourned date increasing the number of weeks he spent behind bars his he was first arraigned before the court to 6.
Mr. Osman Jamal-Deen who is facing charges of Stealing and forgery but has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The embattled Accountant of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has however expressed his readiness to plead guilty to stealing if the prosecution is ready to agree to his terms to pay back the stolen money and pay additional reparation to the state.
Under section 35 of the Courts Act, he is allowed plead guilty, pay the amount involved and then pay additional money as reparation or compensation to the state.
Mr. Osman Jamal-Deen reportedly forged the signature of the Medical Superintendent of the facility and issued NIB cheques to the tune of GHC 580,288.17.
A face value of the numerous cheques reveal a staggering amount of GHC336,599.17 stolen from the Buipe Internally Generated Drug Account with the Tamale Main Branch of NIB.
The Medical Superintendent of the facility detected the crime, reported it to the Regional Director and then got the suspect arrested.
The Ghana Health Service then set up a fact-finding committee that audited the embattled accountant and corroborated findings; followed by a disciplinary committee that was set to take him through disciplinary proceedings.
