FULL DETAILS: The seven justices hearing Mahama’s election petition

A jury of seven judges will be headed by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah to hear the 2016 presidential lawsuit brought by former President John Dramani Mahama.

The petition challenges President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo‘s successful reelection. The participants in this situation are the president and the Electoral Commission.

At the start of the hearing today, the Chief Justice alerted the other supreme court judges. The following are the six other justices:

His Lordship Justice Samuel K. Marful-Sau
His Lordship Justice Nene Abayaateye Ofoe Amegatcher
His Lordship Justice Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey

Today, preliminary concerns were heard by the court during the case management or pre-trial period. The approval for live broadcasting and for the applicant to make certain changes were key decisions on day one.

There is a period of 42 working days for the tribunal to make a verdict on the petition. Today, the plaintiff was in court for a hearing. In the person of the President of the Electoral Commission, there was only one of respondents present. President  Akufo-Addo was unavailable.
