A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon Francis Addai-Nimoh has been denied nomination forms in the constituency after expressing interest to stage a comeback.
The Former Asante Mampong legislator in the Asante Mampong constituency in the Ashanti who feels his democratic rights have been usurped, has consequently petitioned the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi.
In his petition dated January 28, 2020, sighted by MyNewsGh.com he said “I wish to appeal to be permitted to purchase a copy of the 2020 Parliamentary Primaries Nomination Forms at the Regional Secretariat. This appeal has become necessary because I am being denied access and obstructed to purchase the said Forms at the Mampong Constituency Level of the party.
On Saturday 25th January, 2020, I made contact with the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Luther Mare that I wanted to purchase a copy of the Parliamentary Nomination Forms in accordance with the Rules and Regulations approved by the National Council and issued by the General Secretary of our party.
He told me that he sold all the three copies of the Forms to prospective aspirants instantly, when he received the Forms in Kumasi meant for the constituency on Friday 24’S January, 2020. Ito told me bluntly that he unilaterally sold the forms without recourse to the Constituency Parliamentary Elections Committee (CPEC).
He further said he could not obtain any additional Forms from the Regional Secretariat to enable me purchase a copy even though I had my bankers draft of GH¢2,000.00 payable to New Patriotic Party, National Headquarters in my hands.
I then contacted the Chairman of the Constituency Council of Elders, Mr. Gyasi Nimako, who also doubles as the Chairman of CPEC. He informed me that he did not instruct the Constituency Chairman to sell the 3 copies of the forms meant for the constituency. He also said that once the Forms had been sold, he could not take any step to obtain additional Forms from the Regional Secretariat to enable prospective aspirants purchase same.
