The vision by the Nana Addo-led government to make Ghana an industrial hub appears to be materialising rather very quickly as Volkswagen (VW), one of the automobile companies setting up assembly plants in Ghana has almost completed its facility.
The President in his State of the Nation Address last month assured Ghanaians that the facility is going to be ready and start operation by end of April this year.
“Sinotruk has begun assembling its trucks. Toyota is scheduled to start the assembly of vehicles in Tema in the last quarter of this year. We have high hopes for this new industry, which has come to join our own Kantanka,” President Akufo-Addo added.
The plant when completed is expected to provide employment to some Ghanaian youth as well as reduce the cost of the cars to make them more affordable.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin shared photos of the minister’s visit to the premises of the VW Assembly Plant which shows the progress of work.
