COVID-19: NPP’s Nana B loses auntie to pandemic

The National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye has revealed how the novel coronavirus is taking a toll on his family, particularly those living abroad.

According to him, his family has been severely hit by the global pandemic which never ceases to wreak havoc across the world.

In an interview monitored by ABC News on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, Nana B divulged how his auntie living in the United Kingdom (UK) had contracted the virus and passed on.

The husband of his deceased auntie, he noted was also in a critical condition after contracting the disease and is said to be receiving treatment at an intensive care unit of a hospital in the UK.

“My family, we have been badly hit by this virus. My auntie in the United Kingdom (UK) was infected with the disease and died. Her husband is currently in intensive care.” he said.

Nana B made the disclosure when he was reacting to the “politicization of the pandemic” by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in which he indicated the disease does not discriminate against anyone, particularly on partisan lines.

“Coronavirus does not know NPP or NDC. Ghana’s Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Paapa Owusu Ankomah has also been infected by the virus and we are praying he does not die. And so when I hear the NDC politicising it, I get worried.”

“Recently I heard their Communications Officer gibbering, suggesting that the lifting of the lockdown was to allow Jean Mensa and the EC to compile a new voter’s register. I wonder how [they] think. The Electoral Commission had even announced ahead of the lockdown that it has suspended the agenda due to the COVID-19; at the time the President had not locked down the country,” he intimated.

The NPP National Youth Organiser added that “the lockdown affected 18 constituencies in the Greater Kumasi Metropolis and Greater Accra had only four constituencies not affected. So I wonder if they really think about the people.”
