COVID-19: Italy breaks earlier record; deaths soar to almost 800 in a single day

Italy’s death tolls from the deadly coronavirus are soaring by the day.

The European country which is the epicentre of the pandemic has broken its earlier record of 627 deaths as a result of the disease.

Official figures show 793 people have died of the disease in the last 24 hours – another daily record.

In total 4,825 people have now died across the country which is on lockdown.

More than 53,500 have been diagnosed with the virus nationally, up more than 6,500 since yesterday.

The viral outbreak has claimed more than 12,831 lives out of some 297,000 cases.
