The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education, Ekow Vincent Assifuah has been charged for causing fear and panic according to sources at the Accra Regional Police Command.
Ekow Vincent Assifuah was last Friday invited by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service at the Accra Regional Police Command at the instance of businessman and brother of former President John Dramani Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama over comments he is purported to have made on Facebook on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
He was after a few questions asked to go and to report back on Monday June 17, 2019 together with his lawyer, Mr. Gary Nimako Marfo but was told he has been charged for causing fear and panic.
The rescued Canadians, Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty, 19 and 20 years respectively who were kidnapped over a week ago have been flown out of Ghana.
The victims are said to be volunteers with the group Youth Challenge International, a Canadian international development organisation with its headquarters in Toronto.
The group works in 16 countries across South America, Africa and Asia, working to support development projects for young people in areas such as health, education and employment.
They were therefore assigned to Kumasi but were kidnapped at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8.25pm on 4 June 2019.
Eight suspects including some Nigerians and their Ghanaian counterparts have since been arrested in connection with the crime that saw a number of foreign countries issuing alerts about violent crimes in Ghana
