BOMBSHELL: Black Stars players paid $80,000 appearance fees even before AFCON starts

Each of the 29-man provisional squad Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah invited to camp has been paid an appearance fee of $80,000 even before they have kicked a ball at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Members of the technical team and support have also been given their share of the astronomical figures which will bring government expenditure on the national team to more than 3 million dollars even before the tournament starts.

According to a report on Asempa FM on Monday, the money was given to the players after a lavish dinner at Kempinski Hotel, the night before they departed for Dubai for their pre-tournament camp.

The report adds that the 6 players who were eventually dropped from the team also walked away with $80,000 each.

The news is expected to send shock waves down the Ghanaian public who have already expressed disgust at a purported $15 million budget for the tournament that will return $4.5 million for the winner.

The Black Stars have already failed to score in both of their friendly games, losing to Namibia 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with South Africa.

They will leave Dubai for Egypt on Friday June 21 and play their first game against Benin on Tuesday June 25.
