Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the party will apologise to former President John Mahama only if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is able to provide the names of Government Official 1 (GO1) and intermediary five mentioned in the Airbus scandal.
According to Yaw Preko, the NPP is justified in naming Mr Mahama as the (GO1).
“Mr Mahama in his book, my first coup d’etat mentioned a brother the family lost ties with as similarly stated in the United Kingdom court documents,” he said.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said it was no coincidence the court documents described the same person.
Mr Preko’s comments follow series of court documents published by the Department of Justice of the United States and the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom that revealed incidence of bribery and corruption spearheaded by Airbus.
The documents indicated the European Aviation giant paid millions of bribes to state officials of five countries including Ghana in exchange for lucrative contracts.
However, although names were not mentioned in the documents, the NPP in a press conference claimed Mr Mahama is the said government official the documents coded as government official one.
The party also claimed one intermediary five also cited in the document is his brother, Samuel Mahama.
